Synopsis:
In general, the California legislators recognize that current diagnostic delays and treatment options for endometriosis are an affront to women. Therefore, the California Senate is holding hearings to amend the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975.
The amended bill is important because, if approved, it would “prohibit a health care service plan contract or health insurance policy issued, amended, delivered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2024, from requiring prior authorization or other utilization review for any clinically indicated treatment for endometriosis, as determined by the treating physician and consistent with nationally recognized evidence-based clinical guidelines.Because a willful violation of these provisions by a health care service plan would be a crime, the bill would impose a state- mandated local program.”
Take home message:
For many the amendments to the bill may not go far enough, but it is at least a start in the right direction. Stay tuned to www.aimalaboratories.com for further updates and new developments.
